Is there a worksheet for every statement where couples agree with the statement?
Man | Woman | I am a good listener |
A (B) | B (A) | My spouse/partner is a good listener |
This combination will always generate a Strength Worksheet.
Man | Woman | *I have bitterness toward my spouse/partner |
A (B) | B (A) | *My spouse/partner has bitterness toward me |
This combination will not generate a Strength Worksheet. The man and woman agree that bitterness is not occurring in their relationship. They are simply not bitter toward one another. No worksheet is warranted in this case.
Man | Woman | I am a good listener |
C (A) | B (B) | My spouse/partner is a good listener |
This combination will not generate a Strength Worksheet. The man and woman must both agree with the statement and with each other’s view. In the above statement, the man indicates that he needs to improve, but his wife says no improvement is needed. Even though the woman and man both agree that no improvement is needed for her, they disagree with each other’s view over the man’s view of himself.
Is there an Improvement Needed Worksheet for every statement where couples agree that improvement is needed?
Man | Woman | I am a good listener |
C (C) | C (C) | My spouse is a good listener |
This combination will always generate an Improvement Needed Worksheet.
Man | Woman | I resolve conflicts quickly |
C (B) | C (C) | My spouse/partner resolves conflicts quickly |
Generally, this combination will only generate an Improvement Needed Worksheet for the woman. She said improvement was needed and the man indicated that improvement was needed (C). Even though the man said he needed to improve, his wife/partner did not ask for improvement from him. It is important to remember that certain worksheets like this one will generate two questions for the man based on his self-view that improvement needed.
Is there a Disagreement Worksheet for every statement where couples disagree with each other?
Man | Woman | I am a good listener |
A (D) | B (C) | My spouse is a good listener |
This combination will always generate a Disagreement Worksheet.
Man | Woman | I am a good listener |
D (B) | A (C) | My spouse is a good listener |
Generally, this combination will only generate a Disagreement Worksheet for the woman. The woman’s self- view indicates no improvement needed, but the man is asking her to improve (C). Even though the man said he needed to improve, the woman said no improvement was needed from him (B). The two questions will be directed toward the woman. She will ask her husband, “What can I do to be a better listener while you are talking to me?” and “How can I make it better for you?” Then she will ask him to give one or two examples. This combination will always generate a Disagreement Worksheet.
Man | Woman | *I am bitter toward my spouse |
C (B) | C (A) | *My spouse is bitter toward me |
There are certain worksheets where the man and/or woman indicate an Improvement Needed self-view, but not an Improvement Needed view of their spouse/partner. In the example here, the man and woman both indicate he/she needs to improve in this area. The worksheet will ask the man and woman, “What is triggering your bitterness toward your spouse?” The worksheet does not being with “woman asks man” or “man asks woman” because their spouse did not ask for change.
